Developed in collaboration with more than 100 local community members from refugee and asylum seeker groups, the camp reflects the personal stories of Auburn’s diverse refugee community. Tour guides take participants on a simulated camp experience, sharing their stories and recounting the challenges and struggles they endured in order to find a safe place to live.

Professional development tours

Take a tour through a simulated refugee camp experience in Auburn. You’ll experience the journey of a refugee and gain a better understanding of the challenges they face as they arrive in Australia. Tours are delivered by guides from a range of refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds, and refugee health staff.

Dates: Tuesday 1 August, Tuesday 8 August and Thursday 10 August 2017
Time: Tours departing between 12.30 to 2.00pm (tours take 2 hours)

Journeys Picnic Celebration Event and Public tours

Join the Journeys Picnic as part of Refugee Camp in My Neighbourhood and come together to celebrate all of life’s journeys. Awaken your senses to a huge showcase of traditional food, culture and games, as well as rotating tours of the camp itself open to all ages.
